LAGOS — Human rights lawyer and advocate for social justice, Inibehe Effiong, has issued an urgent appeal for financial assistance to help relocate and rehabilitate Quadri Alabi, the teenager recently freed from unlawful detention at Kirikiri Prison.
In a public statement on social media, Effiong shared that Quadri and his family are facing escalating threats and can no longer safely remain in their current residence in Amukoko, Lagos. He described the situation as critical, warning that those responsible for Quadri’s original ordeal may still pose a danger to him and his family.
“Amukoko is no longer safe for them. Those behind his travails can easily target him or his family members again,” Effiong said.
Following his release from detention, Quadri and his family were temporarily lodged in a hotel for their safety. However, Effiong noted that immediate financial support is required to secure permanent relocation, ensure their security, and support their reintegration into society.
Beyond the need for safe housing, Quadri’s mother—described as a petty trader and widow—has appealed for help to support her remaining children. The family’s financial instability, compounded by the father’s death, has made their situation even more precarious.
Effiong also highlighted the importance of rehabilitating Quadri, who has expressed interest in continuing his education or learning a vocational skill.
“Quadri wants to go back to school or acquire a skill. He is willing and open to becoming useful to himself and to the society,” Effiong said.
A donation account has been set up in Quadri’s name to facilitate contributions from concerned individuals, groups, and corporate bodies:
- Account Name: Quadri Yusuf Alabi
- Account Number: 0092695127
- Bank: Sterling Bank
Effiong gave assurances that every donation will be properly accounted for and used strictly for Quadri’s relocation, education, and rehabilitation.
“This is a moment for us to show that justice doesn’t end in the courtroom. It continues with how we care for those who have been wronged,” he concluded.
Quadri’s story has drawn national attention as a symbol of systemic abuse and the urgent need for reform in Nigeria’s criminal justice system. This next phase, supporters say, is about ensuring that he gets a real chance at life after injustice.
