The Nigeria Police Force has officially condemned the conduct of officers caught on camera receiving money from a Chinese national, labeling the act “unprofessional and unethical” as public outrage over the incident continues to spread online.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the officers involved have been identified and are undergoing disciplinary procedures. While the exact nature of the sanctions remains undisclosed, the Force assured the public that appropriate action will be taken.
“The Nigeria Police Force has taken cognisance of a disturbing video making rounds in the media space, showing police officers receiving money from a Chinese national,” the statement read. “The Force has strongly condemned the conduct… describing it as unprofessional and unethical.”
Adejobi emphasized that the officers’ behavior stands in stark violation of the values and professional standards expected within the Force.
“These actions do not represent the established ethics, standards, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force. We maintain zero tolerance for unprofessional behaviour and all forms of misconduct which undermine public trust and confidence,” he said.
The statement also served as a caution to private citizens and organisations who engage police services—especially for escort duties—not to exploit or compromise officers in ways that degrade the institution.
“The Nigeria Police Force hereby cautions individuals and organisations privileged to the services of police personnel, particularly as escorts and guards or other specialised services, to desist from any act capable of degrading the integrity of its officers and bringing the Force to disrepute,” Adejobi warned.
This development comes amid renewed efforts by the police to enforce internal discipline, bolster public confidence, and align with global best practices. The Force’s leadership reiterated its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and reform.
As the disciplinary process unfolds, the incident serves as yet another test of the Force’s promise to clean house and deliver accountability in an institution long plagued by public skepticism and systemic misconduct.
