Abuja – The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has reaffirmed his confidence in Nigeria’s ability to defeat corruption, emphasizing that with collective determination and commitment, economic and financial crimes can be eradicated.
Olukoyede made this statement in Abuja on Sunday in his goodwill message to Muslims across the country as they celebrate Eid-el-Fitr. He stressed that tackling corruption requires a unified and resolute approach from all Nigerians.
“Nigerians are stronger than corruption. No corrupt act can break our common resolve and determination. We have all it takes to confront and conquer economic and financial crimes,” he stated.
He further encouraged Nigerians to embrace courage and corporate commitment in the fight against corruption, stressing that economic and financial crimes can only be defeated through collective efforts and unwavering readiness to uphold integrity.
Ramadan’s Lessons as a Tool Against Corruption
Olukoyede called on Muslims to internalize the values of Ramadan—including self-denial, discipline, sacrifice, love, and purity—and translate them into a renewed commitment to rejecting corrupt practices.
“I congratulate Muslims and urge them to uphold the virtues of self-discipline, sacrifice, and love imbibed during Ramadan. Let these values guide our daily lives and reinforce our determination to shun corruption,” he said.
He also noted that Eid-el-Fitr is a time of reflection, gratitude, and renewal, emphasizing that the principles of love, peace, and integrity should inspire Nigerians to remain steadfast in the fight against corruption.
Anti-Corruption Efforts Gaining Momentum
Reassuring Nigerians of the EFCC’s commitment to its mandate, Olukoyede stated that the anti-corruption fight is gaining momentum, with the Commission intensifying efforts to curb financial crimes.
“The anti-corruption war remains on course, and the EFCC is strengthening its resolve and accelerating efforts to put an end to economic and financial crimes,” he affirmed.
As Nigeria continues to confront corruption, Olukoyede urged citizens to remain vigilant and support the EFCC in its mission to build a transparent and accountable society.
