ABUJA — The Federal Government has officially declared Friday, April 18, and Monday, April 21, 2025, as public holidays in observance of Good Friday and Easter Monday, key events in the Christian calendar commemorating the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended warm Easter greetings to Christians nationwide and urged all Nigerians to reflect on the deeper meaning of the season.
Speaking through a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the minister called on citizens to emulate the selfless love and sacrifice exemplified by Christ, describing them as virtues that should guide national life.
“This is a time to demonstrate love, unity, and a renewed commitment to the peace and stability of our country,” the minister stated, urging Nigerians to use the Easter holidays to pray for the nation and promote acts of kindness.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo also reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, a policy vision aimed at delivering national development, social cohesion, and sustainable progress.
He encouraged Nigerians to embrace the spirit of the season by showing goodwill to one another, regardless of faith or background.
“On behalf of the Federal Government, I wish all Christians a joyous Easter celebration and extend holiday blessings to all Nigerians,” the minister said.
Easter is widely regarded as the most sacred period in the Christian calendar, symbolizing hope, redemption, and renewal — values the government says are crucial to building a united and prosperous nation.
