Birnin-Kebbi – The Kebbi State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on Nigeria’s security chiefs to live up to the expectations of the people by safeguarding lives, property, and upholding constitutional rights.
Delivering a passionate Easter message on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi, the state CAN Chairman, Venerable Ayyuba Kanta, decried the persistent loss of lives across the country, despite the presence of security agencies.
“It is unfortunate that killings continue in our nation without any tangible justification,” Kanta said. “Peace has eluded this country, and we must ask why, even as security forces are everywhere.”
He charged Nigeria’s leaders and security commanders to remember that even if they escape earthly judgment, divine justice remains inescapable.
“If leaders trade in human lives for power or privilege, let them remember: there is life after death, and the wrath of God awaits the unjust,” he said. “The Holy Bible teaches that judgment is certain.”
Drawing from the spiritual significance of Easter, Kanta urged Christians to follow the example of Jesus Christ, who overcame temptation and sacrificed Himself for the redemption of humanity.
“Jesus did not succumb to evil. He rose to cleanse a sinful world. True Christians should mirror His courage, not just in speech, but through righteous action,” Kanta added.
He also took aim at what he described as a crisis of faith in modern Christianity.
“Today’s Christians profess belief in God but seek help from shrines and Babalawos. This disconnect between words and actions is why problems persist in our society,” he lamented.
Leading a congregation of hundreds at the Easter Sunday service held at Saint Luke’s Anglican Church, Kanta thanked God for a successful Holy Week and extended Easter greetings to Christians across the globe. He called on the faithful to unite in prayer for peace and healing in Nigeria.
“Let us pray that peace returns to our land,” he concluded. “This nation needs healing, and we must play our part as people of faith.”
