ABUJA — Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has firmly denied rumours claiming he has resigned from the party.
In a statement issued by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku described the report as “a crude, shameless political hatchet job” orchestrated by desperate political actors. He said the rumour, which originated from an anonymous Facebook page called Adamawa Happenings, was a deliberate act of disinformation meant to cause confusion among his supporters.
“We ordinarily would not waste words on faceless social media platforms like the so-called ‘Adamawa Happenings.’ However, in light of inquiries from concerned Nigerians and credible members of the press, we are compelled to set the record straight,” the statement read.
“Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria (1999–2007) and presidential candidate of the PDP, has not — we repeat, has not — resigned from the party. He remains a steadfast, bona fide, and loyal member of the PDP.”
The statement urged Nigerians to disregard what it called “a vile, vexatious ploy” and reaffirmed Atiku’s commitment to the party and its democratic ideals.
“Atiku remains fully committed to the PDP and to the democratic aspirations of the Nigerian people,” the statement concluded.
